Colwell Homes is a third generation home building company started by Wesley Colwell, who emigrated from Canada to this country in the 1920s. The present company, Hoover Realty Trust, was established in 1951. Shortly thereafter, Calvin Colwell took over the company from his father and began to build homes and subdivisions in Norfolk County. Most of the building took place in Needham, Dedham, and Westwood.

In 1967, Calvin purchased 350 acres in Medfield and developed it into the Indian Hills subdivision. In 1980, Calvin's son, Scott, joined the company and learned the business from the ground up. In the 1980s they expanded the business by building the Millbrook Estates subdivision in Wrentham, as well as a number of custom homes in Wellesley and Medfield.
